Whether you are chasing Hokkaido’s legendary flower fields, following the gourmet trail of seafood and dairy, or simply craving tranquillity under a star-filled sky, Hokkaido RV Parks are great if you're exploring the region with a campervan.

We have suggested some RV Parks for your consideration. 


1. Higashikagura Auto Camp (surrounded by Biei, Mount Asahi, and Daisetsuzan Mountain Range)

Higashikagura RV Campsite (open from May to Sept) offers serene forest views and a calming natural environment. Set near the majestic Daisetsuzan volcanic mountain range, it serves as an idyllic base for outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, and road-trippers exploring central Hokkaido.

Daisetsuzan features 3 of Japan's famous 100 mountains: Tomuraushi, Tokachi, and the tallest peak in Hokkaido, Asahidake. Daisetsuzan is the most popular destination for hiking in Hokkaido, the main area around the ropeway features interesting wildflowers, gorgeous alpine lakes, large dramatic peaks, and volcanic terrain complete with steaming gas vents.

The campervan park features spacious RV sites equipped with power and water hookups (+ a hot spring bath house). Facilities include clean restrooms, hot showers, a communal kitchen, coin-operated laundry, and a barbecue area. Travellers can also rent bicycles, cooking gear, and other equipment on-site.

Expect to pay around ¥5,000 per night, with additional charges for additional amenities.

Comfortable, quiet, and close to some of Hokkaido’s most scenic landscapes, Higashikagura Auto Camp is perfect for travellers seeking simplicity, nature, and a relaxing RV stop in the heart of Hokkaido. Reservations for the 2026 season start on 1 April 2026.

2. RV Park Muroran Zekkei Base Camp (Muroran)

Popular among photographers and campervan travellers, RV Park Muroran ZEKKEI BASE CAMP offers oceanfront sites with sweeping views of Muroran Port Marina and Daikokujima Island. The sunsets and night views here are breathtaking.

Muroran Hokkaido

This park features seven gravel RV sites, each about 7 m × 7 m in size. Four sites come with power and water access, while three have water only. Shared facilities include water supply and trash disposal areas, keeping the park tidy and convenient.

The cost to park and stay is around ¥3,300 per night for sites with electricity and ¥2,750 per night for those without. Conveniently located between Roadside Station Mitara and Muroran Onsen Yurara, it combines easy access to local amenities with a peaceful seaside atmosphere.

3. RV Park Shiretoko National Park (Shari)

Shari is a scenic town on Hokkaido’s eastern coast, serving as the main access point to Shiretoko National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Popular with nature lovers and wildlife photographers, V Park Shiretoko National Park (Ueneusaru Midori) offers pristine forest surroundings with beautiful views of the Shiretoko mountains.

 

Shari Japan Hokkaido

Shari provides easy access to hiking trails, hot springs (onsen), and local seafood markets. Surrounded by the Shiretoko Mountains and the Sea of Okhotsk, it offers stunning coastal views, forested landscapes, and pristine lakes. The Northern half of the peninsula is a National Park, and you can enjoy special experiences such as forest walking, mountain climbing, cycling, sightseeing boat and wildlife encounters.

The park has several gravel RV sites, each big enough for a standard camper van. All sites come with water and electricity, and shared facilities include restrooms, water points, and trash disposal areas. Pets are allowed, but open fires, fireworks, and loud noise after 20:00 are prohibited.

The cost to stay is ¥4,000 per night per vehicle, with a discounted rate of ¥3,000 per night for consecutive nights. 

This is a great base for your Hokkaido road trip if you plan to hike at nearby trails like Shari-dake or Kaminoko Pond.

All the RV parks above require advanced reservations, especially during the high season. As parking spaces are limited. do make plans early.
