Welcome to Nepal. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you'll be met at the airport and transferred to your boutique hotel in the heart of the city. The remainder of the day is yours to settle into the slower rhythm of the valley, perhaps enjoying your first glimpse of Kathmandu's lively streets or relaxing after your journey.

Sacred Temples and Living Heritage

Today introduces you to the rich spiritual and cultural heart of Nepal. Begin at Swayambhunath, one of the country's oldest Buddhist stupas, where prayer flags flutter above sweeping views of the valley. Continue to the sacred Hindu temple complex of Pashupatinath before exploring the beautifully preserved courtyards, temples and palaces of Patan Durbar Square, where Newari craftsmanship continues much as it has for centuries.

As evening falls, gather for dinner at Bricks Café while enjoying a traditional cultural dance performance, offering an engaging introduction to Nepal's diverse traditions.

Walking into Village Life

Leaving Kathmandu behind, travel by road to Sanga where your walking journey begins. The trail winds through the peaceful countryside and the traditional settlement of Chama Kharka, offering glimpses of daily rural life, cultivated fields and gentle hills.

By afternoon you arrive in the historic Newari town of Panauti, where you'll spend the night with a local community homestay. Sharing home-cooked meals and stories with your hosts offers a rare opportunity to experience Nepal beyond its well-known landmarks.

Panauti → Dhulikhel
Pilgrimage Trails and Himalayan Horizons

Today's hike follows one of the valley's most rewarding routes towards the sacred monastery of Namo Buddha, one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal. Surrounded by peaceful forests and prayer flags, the monastery provides a natural place to pause before continuing towards Dhulikhel.

Arriving in the hillside town, you'll be rewarded with expansive mountain views and a quieter pace of life, making it an ideal place to unwind after the day's walk.

Walking time: approximately 5 hours.

Dhulikhel → Nagarkot
Ridge Walk to the Mountains

Continue your journey along forested ridgelines and quiet village trails towards Nagarkot. This is one of the Kathmandu Valley's most scenic hikes, passing terraced hillsides, small farming communities and open viewpoints where the Himalayas gradually reveal themselves.

Arriving in Nagarkot, the remainder of the afternoon is free to relax and take in the mountain scenery from your hillside hotel. Depending on the season and weather, sunset often paints the distant Himalayan peaks in warm evening light.

Walking time: approximately 5 to 6 hours.

Nepal's Best Preserved Medieval City
